The Plant Tissue Culture Laboratory unit at SHN was established in 2003 with the objective of producing
quality and disease free planting material for farmers. The laboratory has been catering to the needs of
the students for undertaking hands on training on Micro propagation of plant through tissue culture.
The activities carried out during the year 2017-18 are mentioned below:
- Up gradation of the laboratory under MIDH was cardried out in the year 2016. Work in the laboratory resumed
after the completion of the up gradation work in January 2017.
- Hands on training were conducted for B.Voc students of SASARD, Medziphema for a period of one week. Students
from Unity Christian Higher Secondary School, Dimapur visited the laboratory for their one day Exposure Trip.
- Participated in Agri Trade Expo and Hornbill Festival for exhibition cum sale of Cymbidium and Blue Vanda Orchids.
- At present, the laboratory is involved in the mass propagation of G. Naine variety of banana and 7 species of
indigenous orchids. Indigenous cymbidiums, Fox Tail and some exotic Phalaenopsis orchids are presently being
propagated in our laboratory. Below are some pictures of the plants that are currently being cultured in the
laboratory, which will be taken out for hardening this monsoon season.
